Land East of Barbican Road, Looe

The Proposals

Westcountry Land is bringing forward proposals for a new Tesco supermarket and 90 new affordable homes on land east of Barbican Road, East Looe.

The proposals respond directly to two clear local needs:

  • a modern supermarket that allows people in Looe to do their main food shopping in the town, and;
  • genuinely affordable homes for local people who are currently priced out of the housing market.

Proposed site layout plan

Proposed site layout plan, with the site outlined in red on the east side of Barbican Road, opposite Looe Community Academy. Two accesses come off Barbican Road. In the south-west, the supermarket of 25,000 sq ft has its car park of 137 spaces to the west and its delivery yard to the south, next to Barbican Reservoir. The 90 homes, numbered 1 to 90, fill the north and east of the site along a looping street, with three attenuation basins: one beside Barbican Road, one north of the supermarket and one in the north-east corner. A wide public open space with walking paths runs down the eastern edge, and trees line the boundaries.
